Fundamentals of Business Energy Management

A short course in reducing energy use

ENGINE partner SevernWye Energy Agency offers five one-day modules aimed at all those who can influence energy use in small and medium-sized enterprises - both within their company or as a public or prive sector consultant or adviser.

The ENGINE training offers a cost and time effecitve means of understanding and applying the fundamentals of energy management.

How is the course organised?

The course consists of five one-day modules. Skills gained in one module can be applied in the workplace. During the following module questions can be asked, experiences shared and feedback will be provided. The course focuses on two key themes:

  • Identification and characterstics of major energy using systems in the workplace
  • Establishing and operating an energy management system

The technical part of the course details how to analyse exsiting equipment and operating patterns and how current consumption can be reduced in:

  • Ligthting
  • Heating
  • Cooling
  • Hot water
  • Ventilation
  • Compressed air
  • Electric motors
  • Pumps.

The management part of the course looks at:

  • Potential energy savings
  • Benefits of an energy management system
  • First steps
  • Energy policies
  • Identifiying priorities
  • How to set and achieve targets
  • Communication and awareness raising
  • Documentation
  • Monitoring and reviewing

The management part of the course is structured around the forthcoming Britisch and European Energy Management Standard BS EN 16001.
